keeping up with the program

What my first post consists of will not be the reoccurring theme of this blog, though I wish it was (a.k.a. meeting strangers who happen to be on their way to pursue a musical career). It's just going to be what current tunes I'm digging at the moment. You're probably thinking, Oh great another music blog, just like the tons out there already. Well, I can't really reassure you there, so just enjoy it.

Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, Teen Daze is the background music that should be playing while you're spending your summer days either lazing around or having the time of your life. With summer being close to over, the previous statement should still apply. Their sound can be described as chillwave, which, is described, in this Wall Street Journal (really? WSJ? yes!) article as a genre having an "80s influence, New Wave sounding samples interlaced with dance-y beats, usually something that sounds like background music from an old cassette."

Four More Years is their debut EP that's out now.

On the bus back to Boston a few days ago, I sat on a fairly comfortable seat, listening to my iPod, repeatedly pressing the forward button because I couldn't decide what to listen to (I have a moderate case of A.D.D when it comes to music and having a multitude of artists to listen to doesn't help with that). All of a sudden, a girl's voice next to me says, "Hey, I hope this isn't weird or anything, but if you're in need of something to do, would you mind checking out my music video?" She hands me her card, which lists her Facebook and her username on Youtube. I tell her that I definitely will, whenever I get to a computer. Meanwhile, the bus gets a flat tire so we end up having a conversation on life and her aspiring goals as a musician.

I do have to admit that although this type of music isn't up my alley, I'm always willing to promote any musical act that needs a little push to get out there. Erica even made all the art in the music video herself!

Here is the flyer for her upcoming show in Brooklyn:
